4th Installation Ceremony of Rotaract Club of Faculty of Law,University of Colombo

The 4th Installation Ceremony of President Rtr. Hiran Geegangage and the Board of Directors of Rotaract Club of Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, for the year 2015/2016, was held on the 30th of July 2015 at The Senate Hall of University of Colombo.  On behalf of our club Rtr. Shalini Wijewardena, Rtr. Thilini Leeniyagolla, Rtr. Bimla Kannangara and Rtr. Umanga Kariyawasam attended the event. 

The ceremony commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest and the dignitaries. Chief Guest for the evening was Rtn. Nishantha Nanayakkara, President of Rotary Club of Colombo East and other dignitaries were DRR Rtr. PHF PP Sathiyendra Tharmakulerajasingham, DRCC Rtn. Saifu Adamaly and Youth Services Chair Rtn. Farzana Khan.

The event began with the welcome address by the Installation Project Chair Rtr. Santhushi Wickramasinghe. The Secretary’s Report was presented by the Outgoing Secretary Rtr. Prabhashanee Jayasekara, highlighting the rise in membership of the club by 150%, from 40 to 100 members, during the past year. The report also highlighted  that the club has completed 17 projects in total for the year 2014/2015 with their Flagship Project being the Legal Aid Camp which was also nominated for Outstanding Community Service Projects for the year at the concluded 25th District Rotaract Assembly. 

Next the Outgoing President, Rtr. Nethmini Medawala took the stage and thanked all her board members, their sponsoring club Rotary Club of Colombo East, Presidents and members of SLAM (Science, Law, Arts & Management Faculties of University of Colombo) and also all the Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors for assisting her for concluding the year 2014/2015 successfully.She then introduced the incoming President Rtr. Hiran Geeganage and officially handed over the duties and responsibilities of the post.

President Rtr. Hiran Geeganage while addressing the gathering stated that it was a pleasure to be introduced to the Rotaract movement through Rtr. Nethmini Medawala. He also stated that a leader drives his group towards the goal and the fact that the Rotaract movement gives you a lot of improvements to life. Following this he introduced the new Board of Directors for the year 2015/2016. The Board composition is as follows-

DRR Rtr. PHF PP Shakthi in his speech said that the club was very special to the District, and also compared the club to a blue whale, with the rise in membership of the club. He appreciated the efforts of the Outgoing President Rtr. Nethmini for gaining recognition in the district by winning 10 awards at the concluded 25th District Assembly including Bronze Medal for Best Installation for the year 2014/2015. 

DRCC Rtn. Saifu Adamaly brought in a sense of humor by stating that in general there is a thought that all human beings should study law, since in life you never know when you will need a lawyer. He praised the club for their Flagship Project Legal Aid Camp and said that the club brings in a lot of value to the District. 

The Chief Guest Rtn. Nishantha Nanyakkara expressed his happiness in seeing the presence of young Rotaractors and added that it brings memories of his past. He said that the Rotary Movement in Sri Lanka practices ‘Proud to be Sri Lankan’, and that Rotary is all about building leaders.  He also stated that this is the best time in our lives to progress in our careers and to make the best of it. He also added that the club should make the best use of the sponsor Rotary Club and partner with them to achieve greater heights. 

The floor was then open for Felicitations, and on behalf of our club Rtr. Bimla Kannangara (Assistant Director- Professional Development) wished all the best for Rtr. Hiran and his board for a great year ahead. The event came into conclusion with the Vote of Thanks delivered by the club Secretary Rtr. Shalanka Weerasinghe followed by the national anthem.

The Rotaract Club of University of Colombo, Faculty of Management and Finance wishes the new President Rtr. Hiran Geeganage and his board a very successful year ahead.
